This is a shame, because the Droid X 1-GHz processor TI OMAP 3630 is the fastest I have benchmarks quicker than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon. I use four freeware benchmarks on Android: BenchmarkPi, CaffeineMarks, Linpack, and Softweg Neocore. (Why these four? Because they are the only ones available when I started benchmarking Android devices in the last year.) Were the first three mixes focus on the performance of the CPU, the fourth in the memory and file system performance, and the last simulates a 3D game. The Droid X beat all other Android devices on all crude benchmark, including 3D gaming performance. (Synthetic benchmarks such as these can not be used to compare different operating system platforms.)

Multimedia

The Droid X is a fine music phone, but it’s really great if you are looking for a device primarily music. Included with 8 GB internal memory and a 16GB microSD card, there is plenty of room for your media. The telephone AAC, MP3, WMA and WAV are music and synchronized with double twist (Free,) on the desktop or have their own free Verizon V Cast Media Manager. (Double twist is better.) Music sounded rich and clear through wired or Bluetooth stereo headphones. If you do not feel like download your own music, there is an FM radio with 15 presets.

The Droid X 8-megapixel camera is one of the best I’ve seen on a mobile phone. I like his photos even more than the EVO’s, or is incredible, it works better with large dynamic range in daylight shots, and takes sharp photos in good light with subtle delineation of textures. Low-light photos are softer than the incredible, but, perhaps because the Droid X-Flash is a bit weaker.

The phone lacks a front-facing camera, but I do not see that as a big problem at the moment, Android video calling software is buggy and hard to use. That is, I Qik video streaming a way without a problem.

As promised, captures the Droid x 720p video at 24 frames per second, which played smoothly on my Mac and PC, although I could not play it on the very phone I took it with.
