Intel showed off their new Smartphone Reference Design using the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and the result are looking very impressive indeed!
Using “only” a single-core CPU, the ATOM Z2460 at 1.6 Ghz, and an Intel Graphics Accelerator GPU, Intel has managed to create a phone with an outstanding performance, capable to run the most demanding 3D games with an amazing power efficiency that allowed this phone to be on stand-by for 14 days or let you hear music for 45 hours. If you don’t believe it, you have too see the following video.
The benchmarks that Intel has made available also show that this phone is even able to blow away the competition.

This is a Reference Smartphone which means that Intel is not going to release a phone but are presenting to brands a complete hardware and software ready solution to their upcoming phones. They have already announced partnerships with Motorola and Lenovo so we might expect some news in a not so distant future. We must admit that this can be revolutionary and bring a great competition to the Android Smartphone Market.
