The miniaturization of mobile phone technology that allows some truly unique designs lately. The Samsung Alias 2 was one, with its morphing e-ink keypad. The Nokia 7705 is a further twist, it literally swings open. It is far from the first handset to do so; swivel phones were more popular a few years ago, and of course the T-Mobile Sidekick line still does. But with flashy devices like the twist, they could make a comeback. The twist is a decent choice for a feature Verizon phone, but there are some drawbacks, most of which are probably due to packing so much technology into such a small space.
Design
The first thing you notice at the 7705 Twist is that it has a hole. The hole serves as a pivot for the front panel, and its “contact ring” lights for your contacts when they call. The twist is small and light in hand, it measures 2,7-2,7-0,6 inch (HWD) and weighs 3.4 ounces. It looks like a chrome accents make-up case, with its glossy black front and glossy design. The bright 2.4-inch, 320-by-240 pixel LCD displays sharp, bold fonts and includes an ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness dim environments. The front panel has a square-ish five-way directional pad and three illuminated touch keys. Twist (get it?) Opened the pivot mechanism and you will find a spacious, five rows of full QWERTY keyboard with large buttons, to provide a quiet and pleasant resistance at the input. The top row contains keyboard shortcuts for many common tasks, but only work from the home screen.
Voice Quality
How many Verizon feature phones is the twist a dual band (800/1900 MHz) EV-DO Rev 0 device without Wi-Fi. The voice quality was generally good with you do not mind a tinny quality to the tone of the receiver. There was no static, hiss, or failures. Caller at the other end said I sounded very clear all along. The reception was rather low, the Twist spent more time in 1xRTT mode than others in the vicinity of Verizon cell phones, and usually one or two cycles showed less. The gritty-sounding speaker was hard to hear, even in a quiet room in the house. Calls sounded great when paired with a Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth headset. Battery life was pretty good for a Verizon handset at 5 hours and 58 minutes of talk time.
