Symbian ^ 3 is now ours, and Nokia is clearly hoping that it will stimulate the sale of its handset N8. With a range of multimedia tools, Nokia will also be looking to claw back previously loyal customers since defected to Android-based models and the iPhone.
The N8 is housed in a handsome, anodized aluminum chassis with a scratch resistant coating to protect it from day-to-day damage. Nokia has also done well in creating a compact chassis measuring 113.5mm x 59mm x 12.9mm. What’s more, at 135g it too light. Its 3.5-inch AMOLED display looks great and is comparable to that of the Samsung Galaxy S.
^ 3 Symbian OS is an improvement over previous versions, but it’s still not at the level should be. There are three home screens full of widgets and applications that can be viewed in landscape and portrait modes, which is a nice touch that many other smartphones lack. Each home screen is divided into four rows, which can house four shortcuts or display a widget, such as e-mail or social networking updates. However, we were disappointed that the widgets can not be extended to cover the entire screen, as many people now want as much information crammed on the screen. The same problem was evident in the Nokia C6, an older Symbian OS.
